The National College for School Leadership worked in collaboration with the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) to deliver this unique conference.
The aims of the conference were to explore, through sharing good practice and considering alternative approaches, how we might build upon the success of the College’s School Business Management (SBM) courses to meet the challenges that lie ahead for schools and, in doing so, reflect upon the PricewaterhouseCoopers recent report, Independent Study into School Leadership and consider the extended role SBMs might play in helping schools meet these challenges.
These changes are likely to require a cultural shift in the medium term to enable schools to move away from a one size fits all approach to learning to a more personalised, responsive and customer-orientated approach.
Through a blend of keynotes and workshops, which used relevant SBM and other case studies, the conference aimed to show how effective school business management approaches might help schools achieve organisational and cultural change.
The conference presented an international perspective through video links to overseas partners and attracted 250 delegates, consisting of headteachers, school business managers and school administrators as well as local authority staff, governors, training providers and government organisations.
