Headteachers and registered teachers are pre-enrolled at the time of registering for access to the Learning Gateway.
If you have not already registered with the Learning Gateway and you have a GTC number, please follow the Join the Learning Gateway link to register and gain access to the online training.
If you have registered and Safer Recruitment does not show in your Learning History, please contact the NCSL help desk on 0845 609 0009 to request this to be added to your profile.
If you are not a registered teacher, or are a teacher from another country other than England, we have made the core of the Safer Recruitment online training available to you. To access this you do not need to register with NCSL. View the public training materials.
Safer Recruitment online training is also available to governors from each school in England free of charge.
To apply for access to the training, please complete the application below. The application form will ask you to enter the name and email address of the headteacher at your school. We will use this to request they submit an online reference to verify your identity, the requirement for you to undertake the training and confirm that you have been subjected to the relevant identity and security checks. Once the reference has been completed by your headteacher, Safer Recruitment will be added to your profile within two to three days.
Headteachers, and their nominated person where governors are not involved in the recruitment process, should apply in the usual way.
Two relevant staff members from each local authority will be given access to the training. These representatives also receive information on the take up of Safer Recruitment online training within their local authority.
To be added to our list of local authority representatives, a request should be made in writing by the director of children’s services in your local authority to:
Richard Symms
Teachers’ Pay, Pensions and NDPB Sponsorship
Terms and Conditions Unit
School Resources Group
Area B, 2F, Mowden Hall
Staindrop Road
Darlington DL3 9BG
Requests should include the name and email for any new representative and details of the representative who will need de-registering. These representatives will then be able to apply for the Safer Recruitment online training in the usual way.
Please ensure that you have read the terms and conditions document. They have been created to advise you how your data will be used and of any requirements that we will insist upon as a participant of the programme.
If you are not a headteacher, registered teacher, governor or local authority representative, you can access the public training materials. You do not need to register with NCSL and no certificate will be issued on completion of the course. This is a valuable version of the training, which contains the core of the training, content and guidance. It is an excellent resource for other members of staff involved in recruitment and selection or in growing a safer school culture.
