The Fast Track Teaching programme will come to an end on 31 August 2009. Recruitment to the programme finished on 30 March 2008. There will be no further recruitment to the programme.
Fast Track Teaching is an accelerated leadership programme designed for those classroom teachers in the early stages of their careers, who have already demonstrated the potential to rapidly progress into senior leadership positions. The programme also aims to equip them with the skills to make a significant impact to their school and the lives of the children they teach. Fast Track is all about improving the teacher, the school and education as a whole.
It is a highly-structured and challenging professional development programme for which participants devote both time and effort. But with the right motivations and commitment, great achievements can be realised and built on for years to come.
The key thing about becoming a leader through Fast Track is not only that you get there quicker, but that you become a better quality leader through the experience and support of the programme.
Lloyd Murphy, Deputy Headteacher, Smitham Primary School, Surrey
The programme is for individuals who hold qualified teacher status (QTS) in the UK and are working in a maintained school in England, are General Teaching Council for England (GTCE) registered and pre-threshold on the main pay scale. Just as important is their determination to improve education by becoming a senior leader within education.
