Fellowship Programme

The Fellowship Programme is the pinnacle of NCSL provision and offers an exciting opportunity to those who want to influence the wider education landscape as system leaders.

Through this programme, we intend to form a top cadre of exceptional leaders who will have the additional opportunity, support and professional development to allow them to influence the wider educational landscape as future leaders of groups, chains and federations of schools.

The provision will examine the cutting-edge theory and practice of leadership, and will equip strategic leaders who have proved themselves through the National Leaders of Education (NLE) process as capable of improving both other schools and their locality.

The programme will provide access to the highest levels of academic thinking and will expose participants to leaders across a range of different sectors, enabling cross-sector sharing and learning.

Eligibility

The Fellowship Programme is intended for NLEs who have an interest in challenging themselves even further and broadening their perspective to engage with complex issues at national (and possibly international) level.

Candidates should demonstrate:

• an ability to think more broadly than school or school-to-school level
• self-awareness and curiosity about leadership strengths and areas for development
• an openness to learning from other sectors (commerce/industry/wider public service/third sector and so on) and an ability to participate as an equal member in a cross-sector leadership programme
• an awareness of, and interest in, political processes and imperatives in the shaping and resourcing of education
• an ability to see the potential of wide-ranging contracts, to form constructive relationships across a broad network of people and organisations and to turn these into benefits
• a commitment to extend their personal role as an NLE to make a more strategic contribution at federation, local, regional or national level to improve the life chances of children
