
You don’t need to be an expert to know that today’s communication technology is an extraordinarily powerful tool for learning. However, it takes a fair bit of knowledge, judgement and experience to make sure it’s used to its full potential.
That’s where our team comes in. We manage the quality assurance of learning gateways – ensuring that online learning and communication materials meet the highest standards. These standards are put in place to make sure sites are accessible, accurate and up to date.
I head up a team of four web developers who develop online content. Together we work with the education sector and IT professionals to maintain and develop web-based information. It’s a role that sees us make contact with a wide variety of organisations on a day-to-day basis.
Far from being tucked safely behind computers, away from the world, we make a point of being available to everyone who needs our advice and expertise. In fact, I’d say that having great communication skills is an absolute must if this job is to be done properly.
You need the ability to convey what can be pretty complex and technical ideas into plain, understandable language that can be understood by everyone. After all, we’re in the business of sharing information and knowledge, not keeping it to ourselves to sound more important.
Originally, my background was within the financial sector. I was an e-learning developer, setting up and delivering bespoke multimedia training solutions. But I moved away from this because I saw that I could make more of a difference within the public sector.

As we’re working in a campus setting it really adds to the feeling that you’re in a learning environment that’s pushing boundaries. And during term time, we often have the opportunity to talk to delegates – our customers – face to face. It’s great to see that the work you’re doing here is making an impact right across the country.
