The aim of the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) is to give children an excellent start in education, enable young people to equip themselves with life and work skills, and encourage adults to achieve their full potential through learning.

General Teaching Council for England

The General Teaching Council (GTC) for England, as the professional body for teaching, provides an opportunity for teachers to shape the development of professional practice and policy, and to maintain and set professional standards.

The Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) provides professional support for school and college leaders. It is the professional association for leaders of secondary schools and colleges. Its membership comprises heads, principals, deputy heads, vice-principals, assistant heads, assistant principals and other senior postholders.

National Association of Head Teachers

With a membership of over 30,000, the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) is the largest organisation of its kind in Europe. It has provided over a century of dedicated support to its members and speaks with authority and strength on educational issues covering primary, secondary and special school sectors.

National   Governors Council

The National Governors’ Council (NGC) aims to scrutinise government proposals in the field of education and to voice the views of its members to government, local government and other bodies.

The NGC has as its membership local associations of governing bodies based in local education authority areas. School governing bodies elect members to their local associations and the associations elect the executive of the NGC.

National Association of School Governors

The National Association of School Governors (NASG) is an independent membership organisation run by governors, for governors. The NASG has charitable status and is managed by a national executive committee elected annually by the membership.

The NASG represents the governors’ view and campaigns on behalf of governors, frequently supported by joint projects and in liaison with other individuals and groups.

The Catholic Education Service (CES) promotes and supports Catholic education in England and Wales on behalf of the Bishops’ Conference and in partnership with the 22 diocesan education services.

General Synod of the Church of England

The General Synod of the Church of England supports Church of England schools through the National Society (Church of England) for Promoting Religious Education.

National Co-ordinators of Governor Services

National Co-ordinators of Governor Services (NCOGS) is a collaborative organisation for all Co-ordinators of Governor Services (COGS) in England, aiming to provide a network to allow co-ordinators to work together, exchange information and share good practice.

Employers Organisation for local government

The Employers’ Organisation for local government exists to help councils achieve the high standards of people management and development needed to ensure the continuous improvement of services. The website gives access to details of the National Employers’ Organisation for School Teachers (NEOST).

NSPCC

The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) is the UK’s leading charity specialising in child protection and the prevention of cruelty to children. It has been directly involved in protecting children and campaigning on their behalf since 1884.

Investigation and Referral Support Co-ordinators (ISRCs) are regional co-ordinators based in local education authorities and funded by the DfES with the aim of improving and strengthening practice in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and in dealing with allegations against staff in schools and other education establishments.

The Sexual Behaviour Unit is a multi-agency project providing assessment and treatment of adults in relation to sexual abuse, training and consultancy services.

Stop   it  Now!

Stop it Now! is a national and local public health campaign that aims to prevent child sexual abuse by giving all adults the information they need to protect children effectively, and encouraging abusers and potential abusers to seek help.

Lucy   Faithfull  Foundation

The Lucy Faithfull Foundation provides assessment and intervention services for adult and adolescent child sexual abusers and their families. As well as providing training to all professionals working directly with known and suspected abusers, the foundation assists social care, education and others to provide a safe environment for children. Additionally, it advises and consults the national review bodies involved in preventing and responding to child sexual abuse.
