Our priorities
NCSL’s work is guided by our four key goals, which we developed after detailed consultation with school leaders and other stakeholders and partners. You can find more detail on these goals in our corporate plan.
Goal 1: develop excellent school leadership to transform children’s achievement and well-being

Develop excellent school leadership to transform children’s achievement and well-being
- Help you respond to fast-moving policy developments.
- Deliver the redesigned National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) – the centrepiece of our work to develop world-class school leadership.
- Support leaders in complex and challenging schools.
- Help school leaders focus on leading teaching and learning by increasing the skills and numbers of school business managers.
Goal 2: develop leadership within and beyond the school

Develop leadership within and beyond the school
- Encourage the most effective leaders to work beyond their own schools.
- Help you network with other school leaders and the wider children’s workforce online.
Goal 3: identify and grow tomorrow’s leaders

Identify and grow tomorrow’s leaders
- Increase the flow of high-quality school leaders into schools.
- Share ideas from this work throughout the education system.
- Bring on more school leaders from a wider range of backgrounds.
Goal 4: create a fit-for-purpose, national College

Ensure a fit-for-purpose national College:
- We’ll remain at the cutting edge of leadership thinking.
- We’ll continue listening closely to you.
- We’ll carry on strengthening our financial management to ensure that we deliver real value for taxpayers’ money.
