Early headship represents a critical phase in any school leader’s development. Created especially for those undertaking this key step change in their professional lives, Early Headship Provision (EHP) is designed to meet the needs of a unique set of people at a unique stage in their careers, supporting them as their needs emerge over an important three-year period.
The personalised nature of this provision allows headteachers to focus on the opportunities that will make a difference to their own leadership effectiveness, enabling them to have an even greater impact on both staff and students in their schools.
Once registered for EHP you will have access to:

After the period of acting headship, the provision may be frozen until another acting headship position or substantive headship is secured. The grant will then be made available for you to use until the remainder of the three years has elapsed.
EHP is available for up to three years from the take up date of your first headship (or acting headship) post.
All previous HIP participants were automatically transferred to EHP from 1 September 2006. These participants are now able to spend the remainder of their grants with any training provider.
