The NCSL Annual Leadership Conference was supported by a comprehensive workshop programme. The workshops focused on three themes:
10-11am
Mini plenary: Baroness Sally Morgan – Personal perspectives on leadership
Sally Morgan gave a personal view on leadership, drawing on her experiences in government, education, third sector and business. As a senior adviser to Tony Blair for 10 years, as a non-executive director, through advisory roles in charity and business, and as chair of Future Leaders, she has a clear view of what is needed.

Mini plenary: Professor David Hopkins – The adventure of leaderships
In this presentation, David Hopkins used his experiences as an international mountain guide and Outward Bound instructor with adults and school age students to illustrate the broader dynamics of leaderships. In integrating this with his recent work on ‘System Leaderships’, David provided an illuminating series of perspectives on learning, teaching, leadership and the outdoor world.

Mini plenary: Mick Waters – The curriculum: ingredients for success
This session explored ways in which schools are mixing the ingredients of the curriculum to design learning that is irresistible. There were examples of young people’s outlooks from foundation stage to diplomas. The entire planned learning experience brought together lessons, routines, events, with life beyond the classroom.
